Finishing our Central Europe tour in Bled and wanting to extend the trip a few more days in Vienna.
Not sure of our best way to travel via public transportation. Will we need to first head to the Ljubljana airport? Or can we travel straight from Bled? Will we need to purchase these tickets in advance?
Hi. Use bahn.de website to see train options. Use lesce-bled station. There are trains with 1 change in Villach, total time less than 5 hours. Then buy tickets either from oebb.com or slovenia rail website.
Thank you Bob. I just took a look at the bahn.de site. I will be booking as you suggested.
The best place to buy this ticket is from the Austrian Railways. If you go on the Slovenian Railways website (https://potniski.sz.si/en/) and click on "looking for international timetables" you get send to the ÖBB.
So book on www.oebb.at
Note that there is also a station named "Bled Jezero". You don't want that. Bled itself is basically served by two stations, but the Lesce Bled station is on the mainline. Don't worry about the change in Villach. Trains run from Villach to Vienna at least every hour, and if you were to miss your connection due to a delay you just take the next train...
