Best way to reach Munich Airport from Salzburg before 9.0 AM

Hi everyone,

I need to catch a flight on 18th November from Munich International Airport (MUC)

I need to leave from Salzburg at 8.0 AM in the morning.
The problem is that the Bayern ticket is available only after 9 am. But somewhere i read that weekend tickets can be used before 9.0 am. And 18th November is a Sunday.
So am confused how to book a train before 9 am as I need to leave by 8.0 AM and reach Munich Airport(MUC)

I have also booked a train ticket from Vienna to Salzburg, but need some clarification.
The ticket says Wien Hbf (Is this the main station of Vienna)
Salzburg Hbf (Is this the main Station of Salzburg.)

Subash

Your Bayern ticket is valid all day on weekends. And, yes, HBF ((Hauptbahnhof) means Main station in German.

A bit off topic, but what time is your flight?

My research indicates that I should take the train from Salzburg to Munich Ostbahnhof (east station). This station is right before the train goes on to Munich Hauptbahnhof (main station). Get off the train and then take the S-8 train to the airport.

Could anyone please confirm if this is the right thing to do.
Also is the bayern ticket i buy online valid till the munich airport

Yes, you got it right. The Bayern Ticket is valid from Salzburg Hbf to Munich Airport, provided you take the Meridian regional train to Munich Ost.

There is no way you can leave Salzburg at 8:00 AM and get to the Munich airport by 9:00 AM. The fastest connection is via the more expensive EC and that takes 2H19. (A RailJet gets to Munich Hbf faster, but it doesn't stop at Ost, then, currently, you have to go back through Munich Ost to get to the airport.) The 8:15 Meridian will get you to Ost in time to get to the airport by 10:39, which should be plenty of time (almost 4 hours) to catch a 14:30 flight

Thanks everyone for the help.

I have booked the train tickets, but just need a confirmation from you all if I have done it correctly.as the
ticket mentions the station in German language i think.

So this is what the ticket mentions for travel on 18th Nov 2018
08.15 - Salzburg Hbf
09:56 - Munchen Ost
Train - M 79016

8 min transfer time
10.04 Munchen OSt
10.35 Munchen Flughafen Terminal
Train - S8

Looks good. It appears to be an easy cross platform change from Track 6 to Track 5. But that could change, check on your travel day to confirm.

"Booking" is a bit misleading. If you are buying a Bayern Ticket, you can take any regional or S-Bahn that day, as the trains are unreserved. Buying now locks you in to that day and it cannot be changed. You could just buy day of travel out of a Deutsche Bahn ticket machine at Salzburg Hbf.

Hi Subash, I'm planning to do the same as you this coming March - leave Salzburg early in the morning to catch my 2pm flight in Munich.

Wanted to know how you made out with the above train schedule. Did you come across any delays, or did you have plenty of time left at the airport?

thanks,
Debbie

Yes Debbie,

I had no problems with the above schedule. Trains in Austria and Germany usually run on time
and I arrived at Munich airport by 10.30 am.

So I had plenty of time to catch the flight.
