Best way to go from Airport to Center City

S-7 S-bahn train costs €4.40, 2 trains per hour, takes 24 min. to the Wien-Mitte train station, on the east side of the Ring road. At the station in the airport, buy a 2-zone public transit ticket from the multilingual red Fahrkarten machines. Your ticket includes any transfers to other trams, city buses, S- and U-bahn lines (www.wienerlinien.at)

CAT train (City Airport Train) costs €12, 2 trains per hour, takes 16 min. to the Wien-Mitte station. Buy tickets from the green machines in the airport station. Departs from the same place as the S-bahn trains. Ticket includes any transfers on public transit within Vienna.

Express Airport Bus to various points in central Vienna such as Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz U-Bahn station (near city center hotels, takes 20 min.), Westbahnhof (for Mariahilfer Strasse hotels, 45 min.) and Wien-Meidling Bahnhof (30 min.), all tickets cost €8.

A Taxi takes 30 min. and has a fixed-rate free of €35 if purchased from taxi desk in arrival hall.

When I was here last summer, I took the S-7 train to Mitte Station and a taxi from there to my hotel for about €10.

I used the CAT as it was easiest to find--I arrived late, jetlagged and somewhat ill--but next time I will use the S bahn.

Rochusgasse is not in the city center, so glad I asked. It is actually my neighborhood and a pretty decent area. Let me know if you need suggestions on anything. Be sure to go to the Rochusmarkt on Saturday morning.

Getting from the airport to Rochusgasse - take the S7 train (never the CAT as it is a total rip off) to Landstrasse Wien-Mitte. Walk to the U3 subway line taking it in the direction of Simmering. Go one stop to Rochusgasse. The ticket you buy for the S7 is also valid on the subway, so no need to buy another ticket at Landstrasse Wien-Mitte.
