Hello! We are planning on skiing next winter with the first stop being Innsbruck. Flying options take us through either Heathrow or Munich. We try to avoid Heathrow, but itineraries through Munich involve a bus ride to Innsbruck.
Has anyone skied Innsbruck and traveled with gear? Should we send it ahead or just deal with a schleping it to a bus? Gosh, I’m almost thinking we hire a private driver!

You can travel by train by taking the S-Bahn to Munich HBF, then changing to a direct train to Innsbruck. Still, there is schlepping involved.
And is there a special reason you are not simply renting skis in Innsbruck? There are tons of rental shops in every ski town. Also consider that your airline will charge you big to haul skis. The only airline I know that hauls skis free is Swiss. You could fly to Zurich and take a train to Innsbruck from there.
I gave up hauling skis to Europe years ago. Renting is so much easier. You can bring your boots if you like.
Hi, yes, my husband skis on telemark skis and is super specific about bindings and skis. For him, we need to bring them. For me, I’ll just bring boots and helmet. 🤷♀️

Two pair of our skis were damaged between Seattle and Bend on Alaska Air one year, never again. I would really put some effort into researching ski shops in Europe. You might be surprised about the quality gear that’s available….just my opinion.
Innsbruck airport has one of the most difficult approaches in Europe (try Youtube) and flights will divert if the weather is poor - usually to Munich!!! Not much of a problem at the moment, but it's not snowing.....
During ski season there are tourist convoys running between Munich aiport and the Tirolean ski resorts - which brings the real question. Presumably you are not actually staying in Innsbruck? So where do you really need the transfer to? Every resort has direct ski season transfers to Munich airport.
@margie from Bend— that’s solid advice and we’ll look around. I can rent a snowboard and Nordic skis easily), but my husbands set up is super specific. I think sendmybag.com could be the better bet. I appreciate the local advice! Here’s to a much better winter on Mt. Bachelor here in Bend this coming season.
@me.crewe- we are not staying in Innsbruck to ski. Just a couple of nights to see the town and take care of jet lag, the ln it’s on to Sesto, Otaly to ski the Dolomites. Last fall we were i. The Dolomites and stumbled on the sweetest family run hotel (Alpine Wellness Hotel St.Veit) at the base of Mt.Elmo, which has great connection to several areas in the superdolomiti pass coverage area. So sweet- this hotel reminded me of the small places my family stayed and skied in Austria when I was a kid i. Terms of scale and hospitality. I can’t wait to stay for a week. Second half of trip is someplace else- haven’t decided yet.

I looked at the generically generated website, saw a French cell phone number at the top and a Portuguese tax number elsewhere. The company uses an english name and and shows no registered address on the website. It claims to serve Geneva and Munich airports with a fleet of vans and a lot of staff but doesn't promote business in any european language.
