best Vienna neighborhoods for sleeping

Anybody have a recommendation for which district is best for seeking accommodations in Vienna? We will be there for 5 nights, prefer something with Viennese character, don't care about nightlife. We are a family of 3. We'll be most interested in the art museums. Just don't want to spend too much time commuting to the sights, so nothing too far outside the city center.
Thanks!

We enjoyed staying in a hotel on Burggasse near the Volkstheater metro stop. It was easy to walk to the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Museums Quarter. We could also walk to the Burgring and Opern Ring to the pedestrian area up Kartnerstrasse to St Stephen's cathedral, Graben St, and Kohlmarkt St. I am not sure what your budget is, but we really liked Hotel Sans Souci and the charming pedestrian streets and restaurants on Gutenberg and Spittelberg near there.

Vienna is compact - you can get most places very quickly, so don’t feel the need to be in the same districts as the museums. Nightlife in Vienna? Not really an issue.

The main art museums are in districts 1, 3, 4 and 6. But I would additionally suggest staying in districts 7 and 8. The only really touristy area is the 1st.
