Best "Tourist-y" Opera for July/August

We recently discovered (by the folks on this forum) that the Vienna opera and boys' choir is off in July/August. There are other "opera" options in Vienna at that time, which look pretty touristy. Is there one that you all recommend above the rest? We are in Vienna August 6 and 7, so this is the list I'm looking at: https://www.vienna-concert.com/events-month-page/en/7/08-2016/7/Classical-Concerts-Vienna-.html

Do you all recommend one over the other? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what you are looking for, but Opera is not happening during the time you are there. These "touristy" concerts are probably going to be familiar hits by Mozart and Haydn played by an ad-hoc band. At least you're in the Opera house or the Musikverein, which is something to see! But musically, I can't really recommend any of it.

The Hungarian State Opera House is hosting Elton John's masterpiece "Billy Elliot" Not classical music or Opera, but a dang good musical in one of Europe's most spectacular Opera Houses. 2,5 hours from Venice by train.

From the list in your link, no nothing I could recommend (Mammals and Melodies? Yikes.)

Not opera, but the orchestra in Karlskirche has a performance of Mozarts's Requiem on the 6th.
They do this in rotation with Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
I've been to a Requiem concert there and it is beautiful.

You might look at other of the big churches' websites and skip the kitsch from the local tourism board.

The outdoor film festival this year (Rathausplatz) has a production of The Merry Widow from the Met on the night of the 5th (not sure if that works for you). Full program here:

This is the outdoor event with food stalls, etc. Shows are free.
