Hello. We are family of 4 with two boys 12 and 14y. We want to spend 10 days beginning of August in Austria . Where do you suggest to visit that we can do hiking and cycling. Somewhere similar to Lauterbrunnen that is not hit during summer . Thanks
We've had good luck with the AllTrails website and app for hiking trails all over Europe. We've found their descriptions of the various hikes to be accurate regarding degree of difficulty, etc. and the user reviews are typically quite helpful. Their map overlay is also quite handy for locating day hikes near wherever you're staying.
You might consider Zell am See. The area is catering more and more to middle eastern tourists. Beautiful lake and surrounding mountains. Take a boat on the lake, a cable car Sonnenalmbahn. You can travel to the Kitzsteinhorn mountain and take lifts to 3029 meters (Top of Salzburg). A day trip to Krimml waterfall? Großglockner Hochalpenstraße (Grossglockner High Alpine Road)?

If a place is scenic, it'll be popular in August. In fact, you need to book your hotels ASAP because this is the peak travel season. Good options are usually booked months well in advance.
