My husband, 14 year old son and I are on the GAS in mid to late July. We are hoping to listen to a concert when in Vienna and/or Salzburg and not sure the best options. Would like to book ahead if possible. I found an option for an evening concert at Mirabell Palace in Salzburg but not sure if that’s the best opportunity. Any other suggestions for must do experiences or places to eat would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Generally speaking , your dates are off season , and while there are tourist oriented programs available , most European musicians are out of town playing in the various summer festivals . However , The Salzburg Festival will be in full swing , and that will more than make up for it - https://www.salzburgerfestspiele.at/en/s/guest-orchestras-2023 Take a look , and see if anything works for you . Don’t go to an opera where the orchestra dresses in period costumes because it’s more about entertainment than the quality of music.

Vienna has small ensemble classical concerts (non- aficionados) all year round covering excerpts famous pieces everyday in one of the many old and beautiful churches.

I will be in Vienna and Salzburg mid-June and booked a ballet that Wiener Stattsoper and the Salzburg Mozart dinner/concert. I wanted to see more, but know I don't have time.
