We're planning on spending most of December in Austria and the one thing I really want is to spend Christmas somewhere nice with beautiful snow and mountain views. A Christmasy, kid-centered lodging (bringing my 4 year old) with non-snow sport activities (tubing, sleigh rides, hot cocoa parties, etc.) is what I'm looking for. I absolutely fell in love with Märchenhotel, but the "cheap" rooms are sold out and it'd be $6,000 to stay four nights. Yikes! Is there ANYTHING in Austria that is remotely comparable and won't give us altitude sickness? ❄️
My grandkids stayed already twice at this place, albeit in spring, and they loved it.
This looks great, but unfortunately they've either blacked out or are full at Christmas. :(
Try to extend your stay. Typically, hotels may require a minimum stay of 5-7 nights during the holiday period.
For which one? The one recommended? You can't book at all over those days, even if you put an arrival in the 19th. I'm guessing staff stays home for the holidays.
Obergurgl in Tirol
Actually Christmas in the mountains is the busiest time of year for hotels. Most people book a year out and many hotels require a week minimum for the Christmas period. Prices are increased as well. So as you’re late to the game, I think you might have to compromise or extend your stay a few days as already suggested.
I suggest using a tool like booking.com to filter and search. If you provide your exact dates and budget, I’m happy to take a look and make suggestions.
Thank you so much, Emily. I wish I could have started planning this trip last year, but I didn't even know when I'd be going on this trip. My entire goal is to just have a lovely, powdery snowy Christmas with my sweet kiddo. I want him to have all the Christmasy activities and feelings so he won't be missing home - and I love this holiday, too! We are willing to splurge on this one (but not $1,000/night!) so our budget could be a bit higher and we're also super flexible on dates. I was thinking 22-26 Dec, but we could make any date work.
Family centered area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. It's in Tirol and would involve some bus travel using public transportation. 1300-1400m high. https://www.serfaus-fiss-ladis.at/en/Winter-holiday
Maybe Mieders, Fulpmes or other towns in the Stubaital south of Innsbruck. https://www.stubai.at/en/
Middle of nowhere Nationalparkregion Nockberge and public transportation might be difficult. https://www.heidi-hotel.at/en/winter/ski-area 1800m high
This looks great, but unfortunately they've either blacked out or are full at Christmas. :(
The POST Family Resort is closed between December 22nd and 27th, then being fully booked until January 3rd.
They have vacancies between December 5th and 21nd without a minimum stay of 7 nights.
Maybe this list of family hotels in Austria will help:

On the right side you will find separate lists for the different States in Austria.
Maybe it's because I'm using FeWo and that's a European app, but I can find all kinds of places in the Austrian Alps for Christmas week at less than $2500/week.
