Best classical music tours in Vienna?

Hi! Headed to Vienna in June, and wondering what the best classical music tours are. There seem to be a lot, but it's difficult to distinguish what the better ones are. Thanks!

The major venues in Vienna ( The State Opera , The Musikverein ) are ending the season by June , as many of the musicians head for the myriad summer festivals across Europe . This website will give you some options for seeing the homes of some of the composers and associated places - for instance The Theater an der Wien ( just up the street from The Secession building ) where Beethoven's only opera " Fidelio " had its premiere . https://www.wien.info/en/recommendations/in-the-footsteps-of-famous-musicians

Cool, thanks for the info! I had seen that one. I think specifically I'm looking for a one day walking tour that has to do w/ music and it's history in Vienna. I feel like those have to be plentiful, no?

I would pick one that looks acceptable , or put your own together - You can take a guided visit through The Opera , and The Musikverein ( These must be done in that manner , you cannot go through unescorted ) A visit to the Central Cemetery ( Zentralfriedhof ) is great , ( the composers and musician's sector ) is perfect . Although I am a classically trained musician , I have visited few of various composers living quarters , as having learned the life stories of many , I find little connection between the physical spaces and what they accomplished . For me , the great halls are the analogous equivalents of great cathedrals , and , perhaps , oddly , the final resting places of these great minds . One of my favorite such places is the grave of the Austrian composer , Gustav Mahler , and nearby , his wife , Alma Mahler Werfel . It is in Grinzing , at the end of the #38 tram line in The Wienerwald ( Vienna Woods ) , and I always make a pilgrimage there , whenever I am in Vienna . Just around the corner from the tram halt is a favorite konditorei , Nobauer's ( excellent Mozart torte ) . As an example of learning about some of the composers before you go , read about Mahler here , he is just one example - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_Mahler Another place where a composer's history is somewhat more palpable is Café Dommayer in Hietzing , where the Strauss family got its start ( Now a branch of Oberlaa )https://www.wien.info/en/locations/cafe-dommayer

Thanks Steven! Great tips. And good call on the Mahler info. I will definitely look into it!
