Best Charming B&B or Guesthouse in Wachau Valley

Hi -we are planning on staying in Wachau Valley on Apr 3 and 4 - family of 5 (parents, daughters: 24, 21 and 16). Any feedback on those hidden gems of really quaint b&bs or guest houses - we stayed in one when we were in Bayeux France that was recommended in a forum and it was a HUGE hit. Not looking for something very formal or spa-like,

Possibly one associated with a family winery? Thank you so much for advice - I find these hidden gems are found here more than just on the typical sites.

Hi - have you stayed there and if so, can you give me any feedback?

Also still open to any other advice from others too. Thanks!

Yes, I’ve stayed there. We (family of four) stayed there with my parents. We had a great experience and particularly loved the garden.

I stay at the Hotel-Garni Goldenes Kreuz In Grein. I biked the Danube in 2021 ( doing it again this September ) and my buddies and I loved this place. The host was such a joy to deal with and the hotel was very clean and comfortable. We ate at an restauant called Gasthof Zur Traube which served authentic Austrian cuisine that was amazing. The small village is right on the river and very walkable. After a great dinner my friends and I got a gelato which was right by the Inn and sat by the river talking to a German couple for a hour or so. One of the best days I've ever had!

Thanks for replies (sorry for some reason I didn't get notified).

Another question here (and I may create a separate chat for it also).

Our plan is to go to Wachau Valley the first week of April since that is our school break (probably Apr 2-4) but I am getting conflcting feedback on if the valley will be too quiet then - some indicate this is a beautiful time of year with the apricot blossoms and people flock there but others indicate that hardly anything is open.

Any feedback would really be helpful. I was hoping to do a river cruise, walk through the towns, see Melk Abbey, possibly go to a winery or 2. Up in the air about biking - since not sure how strenuous it would be and what the temperatures would be

Thanks!

My birthday is in mid-April and I have often gone to the Wachau to see the apricot blossoms as a present to myself. Your dates might be slightly early, but this has been a warm winter, so you might get lucky for flowers. Regardless, this is a beautiful time to visit as the early, fresh green leaves will be sprouting on the trees and the sun will be warm. Here is a link to a webcam which will start to show "apricot flower watch" towards the end of March so that people can time their visit correctly for the blossoms - https://www.wachauermarille.at/wachauer-marille/webcam

On bicycling, I biked on my last visit with my parents who are in their late 70s, early 80s. It is entirely flat and easy. I recommend at some point crossing the river at the Weissenkirchen/St. Lorenz ferry and biking or walking through the orchards around Rossatz. You get great views of Duernstein across the river and the orchards are lovely.

I would also note that Grein, recommended above, is not in the Wachau.
