Best area(s) to stay for 2 weeks in Vienna

We plan to be in Vienna from mid December through January 2. Any recommendations for areas to stay in? We don't have a car so need to walk or access public transportation. We usually use AirBnB if we are staying someplace a week or longer. We'd love recommendations on your favorite experiences in Vienna.
Thanks!

We have stayed twice in Vienna in an apartment on Radetzskyplatz. Two different tram lines pass through there, so getting around is easy. There are restaurants and shopping nearby.

You can’t walk two blocks in Vienna without passing a tram, bus or subway stop. That said, some areas are nicer than others. Avoid districts 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22. Certain areas of the 2nd, 3rd and 5th are not lovely. Districts 13, 14, 17, 18 and 19 are farther from the city center, but are wealthy neighborhoods, generally speaking. I’d personally stay in districts 1 or 8 or any areas of districts 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 or 9 that are immediately adjacent to district 1.

What kind of experiences do you want to have? Museums? Food? Architecture? Music? Gardens? History?

In 2019 we stayed near Burggasse street and the Volkstheater U stop. We loved this area and had dinner in Spittelberg with its charming pedestrian streets and restaurants on Gutenberg and Spittelberg. The area near Burggasse street is convenient to walk to the Burgring and museums and gardens as well as to Kohlmarkt and Graben Streets. We walked to the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, the Palmenhaus, and St. Stephen's Cathedral. It is also easy to get to the Schoenbrunn Palace from this area. We took the U3 Gold Line Volkstheater to Westbahnhof, then outside to Tram #60 to Schloss Schoenbrunn. There is a Spar grocery store on Burggasse which is nice also.

I usually stay in Mariahilf. It suits me best, I have found. As others noted, knowing what you are looking to do/be close to will help narrow your selection down.
