Yes a Bayern Ticket works, providing you leave after 9am (no restrictions on weekends). Buy from a vending machine (can be set to English) or, with a 2€ service charge, from a ticket window.
In German its called the Bayern-Ticket. Yes it does. Travel must begin after 9 am Mon-Fri, anytime Sat. Sun holidays. Write names of travelers on the back of the ticket.
The Bayern-Ticket is not valid for certain express or long-distance trains.
Although Salzburg and Kufstein are in Austria, they are considered "border stations", and the Bayern-Ticket is good too them. The same applies to Ulm, which is actually in Baden-Württemberg.
The Bayern-Ticket is also good on the stretch of track from Memmingen to Hergatz, both in Bavaria, through Baden-Württemberg (Kißlegg) and on the Außerfernbahn from Pfronten, Germany through the Tirol to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
thank you everyone for the help.
regards
Be careful in Rosenheim. The regional (Meridian) train from Munich splits in Rosenheim with one end (the front, I think) going to Kufstein, and the other end to Salzburg. Look for a destination sign in each coach.
