Bayern tix From Salzburg to Munich??

Family of 4 is driving to Salzburg from Vienna.

Need to take train to Munich (car rental oneway fee/border fee is +- 300.00 USD. ugh)

Raileurope & OEBB says 36E pp/ about $200.00.. takes 1.5 hrs.

Can we buy the Bayern (sp??) tix to use FROM salzburg to munich?? Its about 36E for the whole family.
How long is the trip with the slower trains??

Yes, you can buy it to use from Salzburg to Munich. It is about an 1:30-2 hour trip.

The key is that in the Salzburg train station there are BOTH railroad's ticket machines. Buy Bayern tickets at the DB machine, not the Oebb machine. Very pleasant trip.

Yes, you can definitely use the Bayern ticket from Salzburg to Munich (we did this exact route last November). Just make sure you use the regional trains (not the RailJet trains) and travel after 9am if you're traveling Mon-Fri. The trip takes 1 hour 54 minutes. Not a bad deal!

You can use www.bahn.de to check the train schedules. To look at just the regional trains, on the first page after you fill out your "From" and "To" boxes, click on the "Local Transport" box. It looks like the regional trains leave at :12 after the hour.

Bayern-Ticket for 4 people in 2nd class is 35€. If both children are under 15, it's 27€. If any are under 6, even less.

Don't believe ANYTHING from RailEurope.

Depending on where you are staying in Munich, you might want to get off in München Ostbahnhof. RailJet does not stop at Ost.

BTW, when I was in Salzburg Hbf in 2012, I found that the Austrian Rail automats were selling the Bayern-Ticket (I also saw Austrian Rail automats selling Bayern-Tickets in Neumarkt-Kallham in 2007.
