Barbecuing in Austria

Hi, I understand that barbecuing in public parks is forbidden but I am hoping we will be able to grill some things behind our airbnb. Where is the best place to buy charcoal in Austria? Where I live, all gas stations and convenience stores carry charcoal in summer. Is the same true in Austria? Thank you.

Are you staying in Vienna or somewhere else?

Does your Airbnb come with a grill?

The answers to these questions will help me answer your questions.

Seems like your landlord should know; ask them?

We will be staying in the countryside in the Salzburg region and use a small portable grill, the airbnb owner has approved this. I can ask her about where to buy charcoal but I don't want to bother her with too many questions ahead of our stay. I figured this was a good forum to ask. Thank you for your replies!

Buchenholz/Beech wood. Preferably natural charcoal. Traditional in Austria and Germany.

Is BBQ-in in public parks actually forbidden? If they would try that in Switzerland they'd have a revolution on hand. I would have expected Austria to be similar.

In Vienna there are designated BBQ areas, typically along the Danube. If you grill in parks, you will be fined.

This is the official online map of the City of Vienna: https://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/
Check on the left (Show on the map) first Art and leisure, then Barbecue area to have the BBQ spots and areas dispayed on the map. Certain BBQ places require an advance reservation and a fee to be paid.
