Friends have stayed here, and we stopped in for a drink in Bad Hofgastein. Pricey though: Das.Goldberg
We stayed in Dorfgastein at Hotel Römerhof once and enjoyed it.
We did not go to a Spa while in the Großarltal.
Be prepared for some nude/textile-free Saunas.

Note that Bad Gastein, Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein are three different towns, although not far from each other.
Bad Gastein has been famous for its spas since the 19th century, and it still has this ancient touch.

Just passed through Bad Gastein a few weeks back. I think it's not a bad call for a one night visit. Very pretty valley and just enough village amenties.
