Austrian Air

I realize that this is one of those "it depends" questions, but here goes. My husband wants to know, since he has decided he needs his leg weights to continue his physical therapy during our trip to Poland, about your experiences at the gate. How picky is Austrian on weight? The problem is the weights are 6 pounds, severely limiting everything else. That doesn't bother me, as we'll have washing machines, but he's concerned. The route is IAD to VIE to KRK and return from GDN to VIE to IAD. I really don't want to check a third small bag, as I'm the one doing all the toting and lifting. Maybe I could declare them as medical equipment with a note from MD or therapist. Or, I could buy and abandon them there, but don't want to spend our first day searching for a sporting goods store. Can you help?

Is it possible that he could put them on at the airport before the airline weighs your carry-ons? Mine will fit into the dimensions of a personal item bag as well, and no airline I know of weighs the “personal item.”

There are several types of weights that are fillable with water. You basically travel with an empty desired type of weights and fill with water to get the amount of weight needed. Hope this helps.
