Austria Winter Activity suggestions

Where best to stay in Austria for winter activities around Christmas/New Years? Is that the Tirol region? Not skiers, but would enjoy tobogganing, sledding, dog sledding, hiking etc.

The last couple of years we've gone to Switzerland, and have enjoyed Zermatt, Grindewald, and the First Glacier activities (gliding, zipline, Cliff walk etc.) and Jungfraujoch - if anyone is familiar.

Looking for similar activities in Austria. Would probably like to visit Salzburg, Innsbruck (if it's worth it), and Halstatt at some point(s) as well.

Many thanks in advance!

Off the top of my head for a family is Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. This is high season with high prices and you may have to book for a week in some hotels. No direct train access, so some bus travel. I would book soon. Probably similar to what you experienced in Switzerland.

Thank you both - I will look into these areas.

Generally, can I expect less train access throughout the mountain regions of Austria than Switzerland?
