Austria train travel

Hi Guys

Looking for quick advice as I travelling end of this week.

Vienna airport to Munich central
Munich to Salzburg
Salzburg to Vienna
Vienna to Prague
Prague to Bratislava
Bratislava to Vienna

all with next 12 days-

Best way of travelling between these cities-
if by train do I need a rail pass and if yes which one,
do I still need to reserve seat within sectors
how can I do that?

Would really appreciate quick advise.

Cheers

None of these requires seat reservations. I would not bother with a railpass, you have lots of low cost options that do not require advance tickets.
Vienna Airport to Munich will be the most expensive ticket if you want to keep it simple. It is not wise to purchase advance tickets for day of arrival, since you do not know if your flight will be delayed, or if it will take a while to get through immigration and get your luggage. Walk up prices will be 101.90 to 107.80 EUR with a single connection along the way. From OEBB.

Munich to Salzburg can be done with a Guten Tag ticket from Meridian trains, 23 EUR with hourly trains. Buy from a ticket machine or pay an extra 2 euro to buy at the window.

Salzburg to Vienna can be done with Westbahn for 33.50 EUR and you can buy them on the train after you take your seat. Hourly departures. Some trains go to Vienna Westbahnhof, and some to Vienna Hauptbahnhof and other Vienna stations.

Vienna to Prague and Prague to Bratislava can be done with Regiojet. You can buy tickets ahead for as low as 15 EUR, but you can buy on the train for higher price.

Bratislava to Vienna will cost 21.40 EUR for an anytime ticket. From OEBB.

Thanks Sam thats really helpful and you have given very clear idea for me to proceed.

From Bratislava what is the best way to reach Vienna airport in the mid week morning?

In your opinion buses for these routes are better than train?

A bus could be more convenient and less money. The aforementioned Regiojet has a bus every hour and taking 1 hour for as low as 5 EUR. A couple other bus companies as well, like Slovakia Bus and Flixbus.

Thanks again Sam.

For below itinerary you recommend bus or train or mix of both

Vienna airport to Munich central
Munich to Salzburg
Salzburg to Vienna
Vienna to Prague
Prague to Bratislava
Bratislava to Vienna

I'd take trains for all of them except Bratislava to Vienna airport. Trains are more comfortable, but a little more expensive.

You can save some money Vienna aiport to Munich by taking the Railjet train to Vienna Hauptbahnhof. That should be 4.20 EUR. Then buy a Westbahn Guten Tag ticket to Munich. That should be 55 EUR. The westbahn train will take you to Salzburg where you will change to a train to Munich. That is less expensive than the direct Railjet train from Vienna to Munich if you don't mind the extra time to buy the tickets and an extra train change.
DO NOT take the CAT train to Vienna Mitte as it is a lot more expensive.

It's not the cheap option, but since you'll be at the airport, Austrian Airlines does offer several nonstop flights per day to Munich, which take one hour.

Do you need to go back to Vienna in the middle? Salzburg to Prague via Linz would eliminate that back-tracking.
