Austria Train Ticket

Quick question before I leave next week. If I purchase a ticket online for a certain time and miss my connection, and have to take another time, is the ticket still valid?
I plan purchasing the Salzburg to St. Johann Im Pongau ticket, due to the first time in the station and short layover between connections

Thanks

St. Joahnn im Pongau is in the Salzburg transport association area. You need a ticket of price zone 10 (€10,70). If you miss a train just take the next one. All infos at Salzburg Verkehr.

If it lists a specific train on the ticket and you miss it because you are late - no. You must buy another ticket.
If you miss a connecting train because your first train was late - yes, you get a free transfer onto the next train.

I am not totally sure what trip you are taking here. Salzburg to St. Johann Im Pongau - to somewhere else, or what.

Local trains usually have "open" tickets, valid on any train. It is only long distance trains which list the train and seat on the ticket which are only valid on that train.

I am not sure how to tell on the Oebb.at web site if it is an open ticket. train 25715 leaves at 12:21 from Salzburg to St. Johann Im Pongau, It is a local and looks to leave every hour.

I guess I can wait until I reach Salzburg to purchase the ticket, I have 39 minutes to get a ticket and make the connection.

Go to the Salzburg Verkehr web site linked above, check connections and prices and click on info. Whether you take a RJ or the S-Bahn, a single ride full fare is always €10,70, e.g., for the RJ leaving 12:12 or the S-Bahn leaving 12:21. It's up to you which one you take.
