Austria To Paris

Hi everyone
I'm planning a trip to Europe this July with my husband and another couple.
We plan on flying into Salzburg where we will stay three nites.
From there we will rent a car and drive to Feldkirch for four nites.
From there we will drive and stop in Beaune for two nites.
We will leave there and arrive and stay in La Rochelle four nites.
The rest of the trip we will be staying in Paris (9 days)
We will fly out of Paris, back to Canada.
If anyone has any suggestions re: accomodations, sightseeing, car rental or anything else, it would be much appreciated
TIA!

Have you costed the car hire? Renting in one country (Austria) and returning it in another (France) usually incurs a high surcharge.

I know from experience that it will cost more to rent a car in Austria to travel to France but I don't know what the alternative is.
Other than leaving the car in Feldkirch and taking a train to Beaune where i could rent a car to continue on to Paris.

If you do decide to do this, talk to the rental company about the possibility of returning a French car to Paris. We avoided international drop fees once picking up a car in Amsterdam and eventually returning it to Paris -- it was a Paris car. They can't guarantee, but it is something to pursue when you get the car. Sometimes the advantages are enough for you to just suck it up and pay the huge drop fee -- but you should price out dropping in Austria and picking up in France again.
