I watched a German TV program today. It featured a Service/Mass in the small Chappel on the Zugspitze held this July by the Christian communities of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Service was for the deathbed of the Zugspitze glacier, once a powerful part of the alpine landscape and to draw attention to the dramatic changes with climate change. They also mention how shocked people were seeing the glacier now compared to how it was years ago. It all saddens me.

I was on a work trip to Alaska 7 years ago and visited a glacier near Anchorage. As you drive up the road to the parking lot, there are signs marking the extent of the glacier at certain years. The retreat from just 30 years ago was shocking.

The Athabasca Glacier in Canada has signs documenting how much the glacier has shrunk over the years. It really opened my eyes to the effects of climate change.

This is very sad. The glaciers in Switzerland are dying too.

I urge all humans to reflect upon their lives and habits. Try to conserve energy and create less waste.
