Austria Itinerary Help

Greetings!
We plan to be in Germany/Austria in early/mid June 2018. For the Austria part of the trip we may fly into Salzburg. Not sure where exactly we want to go. We will pack lightly. Looking at train travel. There are two of us, mom and teen. Teen wants more hiking, scenic vs museums (tho we will definitely get our fill of museums). Looking at two nights in each town.

1) Salzburg - Hallstatt - Innsbruck and on to Bavaria.

2) Salzburg - Dolomites - Alpe di Siusi and on to Bavaria (I realize this is more Italy than Austria...)

Thoughts? Doable by train?
Thanks!

Having brought teens there myself, I'd recommend these sights in the Salzburg area:

Hitler's Hideout (Eagle's Nest) in nearby Berchtesgaden (bus tours go there)

Konigsee (Google image it)

Ice Cave (Eisreisenwelt) at Werfen. Google image it, tours also go there.

Also Castle Hohenwerfen, which is a great castle S of Salzburg and has a falconry demonstration. It's close to the Eisreisenwelt. We stayed in a agrotourismo near Altmarkt. My children 26 22 22 enjoyed the animals, as did my wife and myself. That would require a car, however.

You might consider the city of Sexten/Sesto & Sextner Dolomiten area just across the Austrian/Italian border. Not sure if the train alone will get you there. I had a great week in early June here a few years ago. Mid June the high season should just be starting, many restaurants open and lifts running for the summer. Wild flowers blooming...

Hallstatt is beautiful but it's very crowded with tourists, so when you decide to go there, do this early in the morning :)
