Austria + Italy 10 Days places to visit in July

Hi,

Coming from Dubai, I am planning a trip with my husband and 5 year old daughter to Austria going by train to one place in Italy. We could only take of 10 days off work at the beginning of July, and we are trying to make the max of it.

I found flights landing in Vienna so that will be our starting point. We love nature, seeing mountains and greens everywhere, buildings and also to have fun with our daughter and of course I love shopping the most.

On the way to Italy I thought of staying for two days in one place, I thought of Villach, to be honest I am not sure where I should be going, also this is out first time to Austria.

In Terms of Italy I think I want to visit Florence or Rome which one is nicer? Is there a nicer place to visit? I do not want venice I think that it will be boring with our daughter

If you were me, where would you go and what would you do? I would really appreciate your advices, please bear in my mind I have a 5 years old daughter that gets bored easily.

Thanks in Advance

Are you flying out of Vienna? You could start a war of words asking which is the nicer of Florence and Rome, and you would not even have to travel to either in order to fill up your ten days

Why do you think your kid would be bored with Venice? Kids love Venice!

Why Villach? That is an odd choice.

You are also trying to do way to much. If you want to go to Florence and Rome than fly there once you reach Vienna without stopping.

I think you need to do some research, but I would suggest either doing just Austria or just Italy.

With just 10 days, consider staying in Austria. You could visit Vienna and Salzburg for example, maybe a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava. In his Austria guide, Rick Steves points out many day trips you can make from bases in Salzburg and Vienna.

It takes a lot of time to reach even Venice by train from Vienna: 8-10 hours as I recall. It is not as close as it looks.

As previously said it is best to stay in Vienna and consider some day trips.

Should you want to go to Venice it is important to save time wasted by travelling. The day trip by train is 7:40 hours (6:25am-2:05pm).
Alternatively there is a night train (9:27pm-8:24am) with sleepers or a night bus (10pm-7:30am), the cheapest way (€29).
The flight to Venice is about one hour (€220).
