Austria in June or July

Hello! We were planning a trip to Salzburg and Vienna, Austria late May to early June, mostly to enjoy music. There are very slim pickens to none for local large orchestra concerts where music by Mozart, Strauss, and none by Beethoven were lol be played, so we are considering changing our trip to July, during the Salzburg music festival. Our reasoning for not looking at that at first is because our allergy to crowds. But we really hate to miss hearing music from the important local composers and musicians.
Any opinions from any of you travelers? Any tips for traveling there?

Thanks,

Anne

I see that Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss is on at the Opera on several dates in May and June. I also see several concerts at the Musikverein in late May early June with Austrian composers. You might also consider attending Mass at the Augustinerkirche, which is not only free but regularly features Austrian composed choral music - on June 1, for example, is a Mozart Mass. Where are you looking for concerts?

These days, the tourist concerts are the ones which exclusively feature Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven - those are on throughout the year.

I attended the Salzburg Music Festival in 2014 and absolutely loved it. I would love to attend again. I didn't feel like crowds were particularly crazy during the festival. Prices are definitely high for performances and for hotels. And it seems a little late in the game to be getting tickets (or hotel reservations), but I have no idea what availability is at this time.

For traveling to Salzburg, flying in/out of Munich and then taking the train to/from Salzburg is the best strategy for getting there if Salzburg is your point of entry/exit from Europe . Tickets into Salzburg can be quite expensive, especially during the festival.
