Austria in July

Layers. We were in Salzburg in late June 2018 for 5 days. Cool and rainy one day, sunny and mid 80s another. Plan your activities based on the weather if you’ll be in one spot for a few nights and be flexible. We went to Eagles Nest on a clear sunny day and it was spectacular. The next day we were in Hallstatt and while we’re were in the salt mine, it started pouring. As we exited the mine on the train, people were getting drenched. It was still warm and muggy that day. Weather can be unpredictable in the alps, and can be chilly in the evening.

Where will you be in Austria? It could be 90 degrees and sunny in Vienna and 60 degrees and raining in the mountains. Salzburg will also be hot as it is not on a mountaintop.

If you will be in Vienna, dress for summer - shorts, sandals, tank tops, hat. If you will be in the mountains, bring shorts, pants, sturdy shoes, sandals, tops of all types, a light sweater and a light jacket that you can layer.

Thank you for your responses. Your advice confirmed my thoughts. In Switzerland and Austria we will be in cities and up in the mountains. Will just plan on layering clothes and bringing waterproof boots and jacket/pants. Also ending trip with a week in Iceland so it will be practical for all countries. Thanks again!
