Austria - Croatia in November

Hello All,

I am planning to 12-day to visit Austria-Croatia in November 2018 for our 10th wedding anniversary. We intend to start from Munich and end up in Dubrovnik.

Munich - Salzburg - Hallstat/Wolfgang - Vienna - Zagreb - Plitivice - Hvar - Dubrovnik

I am a not sure how the weather would be in the part of the region in November? Is it advisable to travel during first half of november? I have heard that it sky is cloudy most of the time and it rains frequently. Also most of the major attractions are closed.

Kindly advise.

Also in case the above mentioned countries are not suitable for travel please tell me which country in europe can be visited during November?

Thanks in advance.
Amit

The destinations that you have planned will be difficult to fit into a whirlwind 12 day trip - is this the time actually in Europe or does it also include travel days? You need at least a week to cover your Croatian destinations, allowing for travel between each place.

You may be lucky with the weather, but November is likely to be cooler and wetter in much of Europe. Southern Spain and Portugal and some parts of Italy maybe warmer and drier. For better weather, head to the Canary Islands or out of Europe.

Plitvice is best if you stay at the park the night before, so as to enter at opening time. Split deserves a full day as does nearby Trogir. The faster catamaran service from Split to Hvar significantly reduces the second week in October from a daily to a thrice weekly service, corresponding with the end of the season. The catamaran will not run if the sea is rough or it is too windy. The slower ferry still runs, but with fewer boats each day. In November, you would be best staying on the mainland.

I was in Zagreb in early October 2015. By that time it was getting cool (not cold, but chilly if you got wet) and quite rainy. You might be luckier, but November is not a time I'd want to be in the countries you have chosen. Keep in mind that the days will be getting quite short by then, and when you add that situation to often-overcast weather, for me it's just not an attractive combination. At least Zagreb has some nice museums (as do Vienna and Munich). You'd want to be outdoors while at Plitvice, Hvar, Dubrovnik, and Hallstatt

In 2014, we started in Istanbul on Oct 13 and ended in Dubrovnik on Nov 10. We hit Bucharest, Budapest, Beograd, Sarajevo, Mostar, and Dubrovnik. It was cool and pleasant. Sarajevo was the coolest, as it was the site of the 1984 Winter Games. Dubrovnik was fine, but we did no swimming (disclaimer: we never go swimming). The crowds were not there, so that was great.

Note that we were gone for 26 days, and you are talking 12 days. I'd cut your stops. Cut out Salzburg and Vienna. Go
Munich - 4 nights
Zagreb - 2 nights
Plitvice - 1 night
Split - 2 nights
Dubrovnik - 3 nights
