I will be in Vienna the third week of January and am intrigued by the balls after listening to some of Rick's podcasts. I will be traveling alone and am curious if it would be acceptable to attend such an event alone? Not having a dance partner is not a big deal for me; I am just interested in being part of the experience since I will be there at the right time.

Generally, there will be women who are attending this with their friends, and would welcome a man who they see unattended, who might like to dance with them. I wouldn’t even let it bother me if I wanted to go.

I've done the annual gala at the opera in Budaoeat and I am guessing that quite a bit different as it's almost entirely couples. So if Vienna is as described ... go for it.

Be aware that the balls have a strict dress code. You will likely need to rent a tuxedo.
