Hello - we are arriving in Hallstatt by shuttle near to our hotel, the Hotel Lobisser Braugasthoff. We will need to Euros as this is our first stop in a country that uses the Euro. Can someone tell me where an ATM with the best rates would be nearby? (I'm not looking for a money exchange, but an ATM machine please.) Thank you -
Suggest using Google Maps and do a search for "banks near Hallstatt Austria".
Banks should have cash machines.
Volksbank Bad Goisern
Seestraße 114, 4830 Hallstatt, Austria
Branch website: http://www.goisern.volksbank.at/m101/volksbank/m061_40720/de/filiale/zweigstelle_hallstatt.jsp?page=0
Filial-Ausstattung/Branch facilities:
Bankomat / ATM
All ATMs will offer the same "rates". Your bank will likely be the one to determine what you pay. The only thing I would avoid is Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), where the ATM offers to do the conversion for you, or in your case in Dollars, always choose "local Currency".
Edgar, thank you! I had not considered doing a Google Maps search using "bank." Great advice for the whole trip! And Paul, thanks for the clarification regarding currency conversion. I'm learning something every day. Thank you so much.
Judy,
I vaguely recall an ATM near the sports shop in Hallstatt, and perhaps also at the Tourist Info office (it's been a few years).
Judy:
You can also go to your bank and order a few Euros before you leave, just enough to cover the first day if the ATM does not take your card or there is not one that is convenient. That way you don't have to worry about not having any money. However, since it is a tourist spot they probably have something.
Walking instructions:
From Bräugasthof
Seestraße 120, 4830 Hallstatt, Austria
Head north on Seestraße toward Bäckergassl
on Restricted usage road for 52m
To: Volksbank Bad Goisern
Seestraße 114, 4830 Hallstatt, Austria
Bank hours: Weekdays 8am to noon, 2pm to 5pm (Austrians have long mid-day breaks)
There's an ATM next to the Tourist Information office.
"All ATMs will offer the same "rates"."
All bank ATMs will offer the same rates. Not necessarily true for private, standalone ATMs, although I don't know if that is a problem in Hallstatt.
Is your shuttle coming from a non-eurozone country? (Czechia? Hungary?) Or are you flying into Austria from a non-eurozone country? If the later, use an ATM at the airport.
Are you coming from the US. What state. If you have a Well Fargo bank, their rate for euro is only a little higher than getting them from an ATM in Europe if you use a big bank like Chase over here.
Hi Lee - My shuttle is coming from the Czech Republic, where we will have been for five days. We're flying out from California, and we do have Wells Fargo (although i don't have a WF account.)
Thanks -
