Anything open in Vienna during Pentecost/Whit Monday?

My husband is a school teacher, and we are planning a trip to Germany and Austria, starting the day after graduation (June 3). Looking at our initial itinerary, we'd be in Melk on June 9 and arriving in Vienna that evening, staying until June 11, headed back to Dublin on June 12, so we are home before our daughter's 7th bday.

In looking at the holidays and festivals calendar, Pentecost and Whit Monday - national holidays - are June 9 and 10. Is everything going to be closed?? Do we need to change up our travel plans?

All shops will be closed, some restaurants, too. Museums and other sights are very likely to be open. Some places which are closed on Monday normally may open because of the holiday. You should check on the respective home pages.

On Sundays, shops are always closed, doesn’t matter if it’s a holiday or not. On Whit Monday, shops are also closed, no school and people are off work. Many will travel for the long weekend, as kids also have Tuesday off school. That said, restaurants and attractions will be open both days according to their normal schedule. So unless you are planning to spend your entire holiday shopping, you will be fine.
