We will be in Austria and Hungary in less than 2 weeks. Do we need any special travel authorization? I think we got something for Paris last year but I don’t remember.

no, but if you drive you'll need vignettes. Also each driver needs an IDP as well as the driver's license it is based on.
Shouldn't have been anything in Paris in 2025.

You might be thinking of the new Entry and Exit System (EES):

There is nothing that needs to be done ahead of time for that.
