Another concert questions - Salzburg and Vienna

Hello,

I have read and re-read so many threads about concerts and did think I should just start another thread.

Background: BA in piano performance (classical, in the broad sense), so something just geared for tourists isn't my first choice although I might have to settle.

Dates :Salzburg Thursday September 3-September 6 a.m. (thinking of attending the church Mozart was baptized in Sunday morning).

Sunday September 6 train to Vienna and there Sunday-Wed nights, fly home Thursday.

Am I just too early to see all the best concerts? Or is it a bit of a lull with the Music Festival just ending before our arrival?

Considering either of these in Vienna, very happy for feedback:

coming up short in Salzburg:

Thank you for any ideas. I am hoping I'm just too early. I realize I should have planned my trip around music but we had family things to plan around for this trip and I'm just thankful we can take it, but it wouldn't really seem complete without a concert or two or more.

In general you are too early and the programs you have listed are generally geared for tourists . That does not mean that they are poor quality . As I had written in a previous post , the season actually gets underway about a month later in October

Thank you, Steven. Yes, it's hard to time a trip to work ideally with everything. We want to visit Berchtesgaden too so September seemed safer for that weather cooperating. But you are right, geared for tourists doesn't have to mean bad .

Thank you, Jean, I did look at that venue. I'll keep it in mind and sit tight on booking anything.

Maybe someday (another year) we can make it to the Salzburg music festival although that looks very crowded and I have seen hotel prices for that.

I just checked the Musikverein , and for your dates The Vienna Mozart Orchestra will be playing in The Golden Hall . Fine performances , a light and varied program and this should work very well . Tourisr oriented but not to be dismissed . Sorry for not checking this last night ! My apologies ! https://musikverein.at/en/spielplan

Probably too early to check for September, but do wander through the website of the Mozarteum. We enjoyed some wonderful student recitals there.

I agree with Janet. The student recitals at the Mozarteum were what blew us away. We had attended a professional harpsichord concert one day that was fine, but it was the somewhat spontaneous stop at the Mozarteum recitals that we still talk about and will always remember. It was truly remarkable what the students were capable of playing.

Thank you Janet and saf! I'll write this down.

I have the Sept 6 concert noted as well.

Thanks again!

I bought tickets to a dinner concert at St Peter's as well as a concert at Mirabel a different evening. I will buy the Sept 6 Sunday concert tickets when they're available and have the date that Marriage of Figaro tickets go on sale on my calendar. I think that will be a great balance for our vacation. And yes, quite Mozart heavy but he's been my favorite composer since I was 8.

Not relevant to your question, but one of the houses associated with Mozart had a piano he actually played. That was my best memory of Salzburg.

As I recall , the piano ( an early Pianoforte ) is in The Geburtshaus ( Birth house ) in Salzburg

Yes, we're planning on visiting Mozart's birth house.

I bought Marriage of Figaro tickets today! For Wednesday the 9th.

Steven (if you see this), would you weigh in regarding choosing the Sunday September 6 concert
The Castle Chapel
Fritz Kircher , violin
program
Works by Mozart and Haydn
Antonio Vivaldi
Le quattro stagioni (“The Four Seasons”)

vs this on Monday and Tuesday

Großer Saal | 20:15 Uhr
Wiener Mozart Orchester
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

I was about to buy tickets for the Sunday performance and then started 2nd guessing.

I would opt for the program in The Musikverein Grosser Salle . The acoustics are heavenly and the orchestra is first rate . Keep in mind that in addition to the named ensembles , there is a large free lance contingent in Vienna ( much like New York City ) and the performance level among free lancers is very high . As a single isolated example - The Bassoonist , Sophie Dervaux , used to play with the Wiener Mozart Orchestra before she won the Principal Chair in The Vienna State Opera , and subsequently Principal in The Vienna Philharmonic By the way , enjoy this performance of " G'schicten Aus Dem Wienerwald " ( " Tales of The Vienna Woods " ) by the Vienna Philharmonic at the 2014 New Years Concert . The introduction is cut here , but the rest of the waltz is intact , The Zither solo at the end is a Paen to the Schrammel Musik that used to be played in the Heurigen in the Wienerwald https://youtu.be/nfYMGwypjzg?si=fQAnnW_IaICa0A3z
