Anyone familiar with the Kufstein - Keifersfelden area on the Inn River? There is a festival at Reith im Alpbachtal in late September. Would a car rental be worth the cost? Or is rail travel best?
We’d also like to see Berchtesgaden while we’re there.
Not a whole lot going on in Kufstein or Keifersfelden. Its the border and sometimes the Autobahn gets backed up into Germany due to police checks. I've spent a few nights in Oberaudorf during Fasching years ago. Hintersteiner See is nice for a visit along with any of the ski areas by the Wilden Kaiser, Austria. I drive my own car, so I would recommend a car if you are Ok driving here. You can skip a vignette by driving only the secondary roads in Austria. Make sure there is parking wherever you stay.
An Almabtrieb is an amazing thing. Nearly all Alpine towns have one.
On the cow descent days, traffic would be a nightmare. In fact, road closures are common and some parking lots may be closed for the events. I used public transportation to watch three cow descent events. No problem at all.
