All Day Public Transportation

Good morning...my sister and I will be flying into Vienna on April 18. We will be solely relying on public transportation, and would like to 'train' around to other areas within Austria. Are there 'day' tickets for purchase similar to those in Germany such as the Bayern Ticket which covers most public transport?
Thank you for your time. Judi

Einfach-Raus Ticket.

This day ticket is restricted to regional (= slower) trains.
You cannot use it on express trains, e.g. a RailJet to Salzburg or Graz.

There is a huge variety of tickets for public transport within Vienna. The best choice depends on date and duration of your stay.

There is a train every 15 minutes from Vienna International Airport to the city. The fare is €3.90. Two routes are serviced alternating: RailJet to main train station and S7 commuter to center train station (and further northbound). Which route is best depends where you want to go to. Do not use the CAT (City Airport Train), it is a rip-off.

Of course. The OP asked if it was like the Bayern Ticket, which is also limited to regional trains. But on that subject, would you know if an Einfach-Raus ticket includes S-bahn trains in Vienna?

Yes. (See the description you posted yourself via the respective link.)

It appears that the Einfach-Raus-Ticket does include the S-bahn in Vienna, but it probably does not include other conveyances like the U-Bahn or buses. Also note that the Einfach-Raus-Ticket is only valid for two or more persons traveling together. A single person cannot use the Einfach-Raus-Ticket. Even if you got it for you an another person to use together, if one person goes out alone, the ticket is not valid.

The Einfach-Raus-Ticket is valid for all of Austria. If you are only looking at local transportation in Vienna, an Einfach-Raus-Ticket is probably not the appropriate ticket. Look for some kind of a day ticket just for Vienna.

Hi,

In Vienna there are hotels offering the guest a day combi-pass, ie where ever you go in Vienna, the pass is valid on the S-Bahn/U-Bahn, plus buses, valid for the entire multi-day stay. . Very handy to have since it's valid for going to the outer suburbs, places distinctly not on the North American tourist radar.

Oh for sure not!

If you have a valid Wiener Linien ticket and you want to use an S-bahn to go to some outlying suburban destination, a 33 Euro Einfach Raus ticket (for two persons) makes ZERO sense. The reasonable choice would be to buy a ticket from the city boundary to one's destination from the ticket machine.

The Einfach-Raus-Ticket only pays off for longer destinations. And esp the version that includes bicycles. It is a ticket for group travel across regions of the country, not within greater Vienna.

I'm not sure those hotels offering a combi ticket are doing any great service either. I mean, your Wiener Linien pass is good on S-bahn trains inside the city boundary already. Buying a ÖBB ticket from the boundary to some suburban destination is going to be only a couple of Euros each way. Max.

I think for visitors, the thing to understand is the reciprocity between the Wiener Linien ticket and the ÖBB. Wiener Linien is good to the city boundary, even on an ÖBB train. You only need to top it up from the boundary to the destination.

The hotel; I stay at offers the guest a combi-ticket, which is all one needs for public transport in Vienna, nothing else, as it is valid at all times the transport is running, even on the day after you have checked out.
