Accommodation in Hallstatt

We are looking to spend 2 nights in Hallstatt October 1 and 2nd. We have contacted several hotels who are holding availability for regular guests that stay a week or more. We are not willing to take our chances and finding a place to sleep when we get there. Any suggestions to check out would be great. Prefer a double with ensuite bath. Thanks!

Right this moment I am watching swans on the lake from my room at the Braugasthof Lobisser Hallstatt and I wouldn't trade anything for the view. The hotel is creaky and charming and full of character. We love it.

I find it hard to believe that hotels in Hallstatt are only booking a week or more. Most people say that one night is enough to see Hallstatt (I spent two nights in 2009). Are you using the official website of Hallstatt, www.hallstatt.de.

Gasthof Hirlatz is in Lahn, a short walk on the lakeside pedestrian road from Hallstatt. There are other possibilities in Lahn, too. I stayed in Lahn in 2009 and would recommend it. You are going to have to walk from Hallstatt to Lahn anyway if you want to go up to the salt mine.

When you arrive, you can get to Lahn by going one more stop past Hallstatt Bahnhof to Obertraun and taking the bus around the end of the lake to Lahn. In fact, Obertraun is also a good alternative to staying in Hallstatt.

You can find accommodations (Unterkünfte) for Bad Ischl at this official website. They have 90 choices - Hotels, Gasthöfe, apartments, and homes with private rooms.

This accommodations website for the area (Dachstein-Slazxkammergut) has lots of accommodations in Hallstatt, Lahn, Obertraun, Bad Goisern, and Gosau. Both Gosau and Bad Goisern have stations on the same rail line but closer to Hallstatt than Bad Ischl.

Judy! That is where I ended up getting reservations! Going to Germany and Austria during Octoberfest time has been a challenge. But I was able to get reservations where I want to stay in Vienna so it has been great.

Michele,

Which hotels have you contacted? If you haven't checked already, you might try Gasthof Simony, which has lake views from some rooms. It's an older hotel with a wonderful "creaky" character, but I found it to be clean and comfortable.

Gasthos Gruener-Anger, also in Lahn is excellent and their food (only offered to guests) is excellent and reasonable--breakfast is included and wonderful
