AC in Vienna

Hi,

Is it me or is air conditioning rare in Vienna? There are so many choices for hotels, B&Bs etc, but very few list AC. We are traveling the end of September/early October, but my husband is very sensitive to heat, so I had hoped to find one with AC just in case we're there during unusually warm weather.

Thanks!

Melissa

Double check with the hotels you are attracted to - they may have it and not list it.
Vienna in summertime is VERY hot and can still be in September, but late Sept/ early Oct you should be more comfortable.

You can Google the average daytime high/low temps for any given month in just about any city on earth. I'd be very surprised to find temps requiring AC at that time of year. However, there are certainly hotels in Vienna that have AC. If you look on booking.com, you can set AC as one of the filters for your hotel search (as well as price, location, etc).

This is the hotel I have been using in Vienna , spent three weeks there last Autumn , and returning this October for two more . The place is spotless , great breakfast , and a very short U bahn ride ( ten minutes ) into the center . It is air conditioned , and the rooms are freshly renovated . https://www.classic-hotelwien.at/en/

Hi,

Normally, in Vienna it's rare to find hotels with AC. I don't expect it. Towards the end of Sept it can still be pretty hot, it starts towards the end of May. The small hotels (2 stars or even 3 stars)... forget finding AC with them.

Yes, a/c is uncommon in Vienna. For the one or two weeks a year where it would be nice to have, we just use fans and open windows. In late September/early October, you will definitely not need a/c. You might even want some heat.

Fair warning: We read all the 'we just open windows and use fans' type of comments before a trip to Austria and Germany a couple summers ago. Temps got ridiculous, even places "with AC" were struggling, and we had to beg just to get one pathetic fan at one hotel, and of course there was the one night when our open window was right over an all-night set up of a street festival. If it gets hot you probably won't find it to be anything like the USA even if there are supposedly cooling methods available.

"Temps got ridiculous " ...sounds very much like what I have been through in Munich at the Pension with a fan or without one. At a Pension you expect no AC anyway.

But the OP is traveling in the fall...not summer...

Yes, but occasionally people look at threads for information besides the OP.
