A Full Day in Mittenwald and Innsbruck ... alpine farm?

Coming from Garmisch and with a car, we have a day to explore Mittenwald and Innsbruck in August. We will already have done cable car/rodelbahn/gorge so ... how should we spend the day? I'd be happy to browse the streets and little shops but our two teens might not be. Is there an alpine farm/restaurant we could visit in the area? We like breweries also. Thanks for any ideas.

You could go to Innsbruck Old city early and look around, and then take the train to Fulpmes, Österreich or vice versa. Parking in Innsbruck could be a problem. Restaurant Huisler Stube in Fulpmes might be the best place to eat there. My favorite in Old Innsbruck is Altstadt-Schmankerl. They have a good lunch special.

From Rick Steves book. This is right by Hall in Tirol 15 minutes from Innsbruck.

Begin your ascent in Gnadenwald, a chalet-filled village sandwiched between Hall and its Alps. Pay the toll, pick up a brochure, then corkscrew your way up the mountain. Marveling at the crazy amount of energy put into such a remote road project, you'll finally end up at the rustic Hinterhornalm restaurant (often closed). Hinterhornalm is a hang-gliding springboard. On good days, it's a butterfly nest. From there, it's a level 20-minute walk to Walderalm, a cluster of three dairy farms with 70 cows that share their meadow with the clouds. The cows ramble along ridge-top lanes surrounded by cut-glass peaks. The ladies of the farms serve soup, sandwiches, and drinks (very fresh milk in the afternoon) on rough plank tables. Below you spreads the Inn River Valley and, in the distance, tourist-filled Innsbruck.

From Innsbruck, take tram line #1 to Bergisel where you switch to line #6 (runs once per hour so check times on ivb.at or at the tourist office). Line #6 slowly climbs in a wooded area and is adventure in itself - urban ticket is valid. Get down at Lans and walk (10 minutes) to Jausenstation Vogelhütte (that can be loosely translated as snack station at the birds' hut) where you can have simple meals. Cannot think of a more alpine restaurant. Lans is on a sort of ledge over Innsbruck and a nice area for light hikes. You can go back to city with tram #6 or, more frequent, bus J from the centre of Lans or Igls or Vill.
