4 Days in Vienna September 2026

Hello,

My family (my husband and I along with our 25 year old daughter) will be spending 4 days in Vienna in September. This will be a first time visit for both of them, and I only had a brief visit there over 30 years ago. Our daughter enjoys palaces and gardens and non-art museums in moderation, but not art. I am a huge art lover and we will likely separate for part of the trip so I can take in some of the museums

Here's our tentative itinerary, I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions for things that we should reconsider or may have missed.

Day 1: Hofburg Imperial Apartments & Sisi Museum, Austrian National Library, Hofburg Imperial Treasury, St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche)

Day 2: Naschmarkt, Vienna State Opera House Tour, Albertina Museum State Rooms, Haus der Musik, Imperial Crypt

Day 3: Schönbrunn Palace, Natural History Museum, Walk around the Ringstrasse

Day 4: Belvedere Palace Gardens, Privy Garden & Botanical Garden, St. Stephen’s Cathedral

We are considering the following options for lodging:

www.airbnb.com/rooms/1328903126424199554

Finding loding for 3 adults is always a challenge in Europe, I would appreciate any thoughts about these particular locations.

Thanks in advance for your insight and assistance!

Hi Amy, we will be staying in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment near Karlsplatz with my husband and teen daughter. I have not seen it yet, will see it on Friday, but I can give you the link right away. We chose it because our daughter will have some privacy there, and it is within walking distance from virtually everything.

All three areas are good and about equally distant from the very center. (There are no really bad areas in Vienna.)

In Vienna it is important to get acquainted with its excellent public transport system. To make the most out of your limited time you should use public transport (tram, subway, bus) as much as possible. Vienna is not as small as a lot of tourists think of, trying to do everything by walking.

Therefore I would choose number two in the list as it has a subway station, a tram and a bus stop nearby.
