3 days in winter

I have 3 days booked in early December in Salzburg. Of course going to see the Christmas markets and town of Salzburg and have one day to see st gilgen and Wolfgang...is it worth seeing Strobl too?

Basically have a spare day. Any recs on what we should do/what's worth seeing?

Also any restaurant recs for lunch and dinner would be most welcome!

Will be travelling by train.

Thanks!

The Christmas Markets at Wolfgangsee include Sankt Gilgen, St. Wolfgang and Strobl. I recommend seeing all three. You take the 150 bus from Salzburg to Stobl, then the Christmas Market ferry to St. Wolfgang and then ferry again to Sankt Gilgen. From Sankt Gilgen, you take the 150 bus back to Salzburg. If you have time and if the weather is clear, I recommend taking the Christmas train up to the top of Schafberg from St. Wolfgang.

Each of these three connected markets have a different theme, which is lovely to explore. If you don't want to visit Strobl, then get off the 150 bus at St. Gilgen, ferry to St. Wolfgang and then ferry back to St. Gilgen. The 150 bus doesn't go to St. Wolfgang and a change is required, which is time consuming.

In Salzburg, be sure to visit the Christmas market at Hellbrunn Palace, probably the best Christmas Market I have been to (and I've been to a lot).

As for lunch/dinner recommendations for your day on the Wolfgangsee, you will want to just eat food from the markets, right?

Also looked into the Christmas train and will for sure do this if weather plays ball!

I've only been to Strobi in warmer months. Was very windy then. Don't know what goes there in Winter, but I wouldn't go out of my way. If you are up to longer train travel and weather conditions are good with early snow, you might consider a trip to a ski area like Schladming-Dachstein or Waidring or even KitzbΓΌhel. You don't have to ski. Just take the Bergbahn up and have a bite to eat and a drink, watch the skiers and enjoy the atmosphere. It will be expensive and keep in mind dark at 17:00.

Neues Schloss Herrenchiemsee? If open and you can make the train and boat connections.

Just some ideas.
