3 1/2 Days outside Salzburg Itinerary

In September/October, our group of four 55+ seniors are staying 30 min south of Salzburg in Golling an der Salzbach for 3 1/2 days after spending a few days in Munich. While in Munich, we're doing Oktoberfest, Dachau, Augsburg, and Neuschwanstein. I would love to hear what Austria forum members think of this Salzburg-area itinerary. PS: We have our own car and a Sound of Music Tour is out of the question. Thank you in advance.

Day 1: Arrive at hotel at 1PM. Drive 30 min to Berchtesgaden and tour the salt mines and the town.
Day 2: Full day: Train to Salzburg to tour the Hohensalzburg Castle and Old Town.
Day 3: Full day: Back to Berchtesgaden for Eagles Nest, Documentation Center and SS Bunkers.
Day 4: Full day: Hallstatt and Gosausee

I'm unsure of spending 1 1/2 days in Berchtesgaden, but many on the forum suggest spending time there. Thanks all for your suggestions.

My preference for the Berchtesgaden area would be the boat on the Königssee & St. Bartholomä in Nationalpark Berchtesgaden and the new Jennerbahn. This could be done in one day unless you hike for a distance and both use the same parking place. You could probably squeeze in Berchtesgaden time allowing. The weather would play into this too, as poor weather would discourage Königssee & St. Bartholomä and the Jenner. With bad weather spend the time underground...

the itinerary looks OK
given that it appears that you are definitely staying in Golling then spending time in the berchtesgaden area is a very good option.
as my feeling is there is more to see near berchtesgaden

driving around in the general area is not a problem. catching a train into salzburg ( or using the good park and ride- near salzburg) is a good option as parking in the middle of salzburg is not great, but possible.
have you considered visiting the hohenwerfen castle
https://www.salzburg-burgen.at/de/burg-hohenwerfen/
lake konigssee
https://www.uncommon-travel-germany.com/konigssee.html

with a car you could also visit

lake hintersee
https://www.berchtesgaden.de/en/come-view/nature-wonders/hintersee-lake-and-ramsau
last year while staying in ramsau we caught a bus from hintersee up into the national park and hiked back down to the lake, beautiful scenery and no crowds
also with a car you could drive the rossfeld road

or visit the therme
https://www.watzmann-therme.de/
for a swim in the salt- really good.
the list just goes on.
(we are 55+)
hope this helps.

Day 4: Full day: Hallstatt and Gosausee

Maybe you should consider visiting Lake Altaussee (Altausseer See), called "The Alp's Inkpot" because of its dark blue color.
