2 days in Innsbruck in July

We'll be spending 2-1/2 days in Innsbruck at the end of July before joining our bicycle tour group. I'd love to get ideas for the best things to see and do in such a short stay as well as tips on places to eat, shop, weather and anything else others would like to share. Thanks in advance!

We took the funicular 1/2 way up the mountain and hiked -- to those awesome "huts" in the Alps where you get great beer and amazing food. Lots of hiking trails, many options, and easy to get to. We also enjoyed walking along the river. Yes, we walked around the town as well. We enjoyed our meals; don't remember the names of some, but I do remember one of them was Wilderin. It's in old town, a little off the main pedestrian thoroughfare -- food was amazing and staff was wonderful.

Take a walk in the city and visit the cathedral, the Hofkirche the Hofburg and the Golden Dachl. Take the Nordketten cable railway from the (edge of) the center up to the Nordkette. It brings you (with two transfers) up to 2000m with marvelous views and many hiking possibilites. Visit Schloss Ambras and / or the deligthful town of Hall in Tirol.

If your wife desperatly needs to see the Swarowski store let her go and go yourself to the baroque Maria-Theresien street for a decent beer in one of the many inns and cafés.
