14-day itinerary advice flying in to AND out from Vienna (no open jaw)

Due to work restrictions (my partner will be on a business trip), we will be flying into and out from Vienna in June.

We have 14 days for travelling, and keeping in mind that we are not able to do an open jaw flight- what is the most practical travel path?

We are open to any countries, the only requirement is to start and end our trip in Vienna for our flight. This is my first time to Europe. Would like a different variety of sights and activities that would allow us to experience the best of Europe (art, history, architecture, nature, foood).

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you're into art, history, architecture, nature and food, you're going to the right place. And Vienna is the music city of Europe too. I would suggest spending at least 4 full days there.
There are many different cities easily reached out of Vienna--depending on which way you want to go. You could easily take a train west to Salzburg and Munich. Or you could go to Prague, Dresden and even Berlin via train. Or, you could go south to Bratislava (39 mi.) and down to my favorite, Budapest.

Or you could rent a car and head southwest into The Alps--and Tirol.

Another option would to fly on a European budget air carrier to a city far away. Flights are cheap, and you could fly to Paris and/or Barcelona on Vueling. Or you could fly to Rome easily. You can get just about everywhere in Western and Eastern Europe within 2 hours and fly back into Vienna for your trip home.
