11 person trip Christmas 2025: Vienna & St. Anton area skiing

We are planning an extended family trip for Christmas 2025 for 6 adults and 5 kids (ages 15- 9).

Here's a tentative itinerary:
fly into Vienna, arrive early Sun 12/21,
2 nights Vienna (12/21- 12/23),
train to St. Anton area,
4 nights St. Anton area (12/23- 12/27, Christmas),
12/27- travel to airport city, stay near airport,
fly home 12/28 out of Innsbruck or Munich (to Washington DC area)

Goal is Christmas Markets/ best of Vienna, pretty Austrian countryside/ culture and some skiing. Not all ski, so are looking for a place with more going on. We were told higher elevation skiing was a good idea to ensure snow this early in the season. Where possible, we'd like to rent a home to stay together, or in accommodations with communal space for us to be together. Of note, 12/27 is a 50th wedding anniversary, so we'd love to do something special on the 27th. Maybe Munich is better for that than Innsbruck for an Anniversary celebration? We don't want the end of the trip to feel too hectic.

Any feedback on itinerary, lodging options, and end of trip 50th wedding anniversary celebratory ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

The whole trip is hectic. Why would you choose the skiing area which is farmost away from Vienna? The fastest train from Vienna to St. Anton needs 5:40 hours, i.e. you loose a full day. Daylight is only 8 hours at that time of the year. Not to talk about that St. Anton is one of the most expensive skiing areas in Austria. (Still only one third of the prices in Aspen, CO.)

I would stay the whole week in Vienna. Depending on the snow situation you can make a day trip to skiing areas about one and a half hour away from Vienna. And those who do not ski can entertain themselves in the city.

You might find a place, but this is absolute high season. Some places may not rent for under a week. From my last visit to Lech, I understand all things considered the Alberg region is a bargain to some US ski areas. The flight, hotel and ski pass are cheaper in some cases then US resorts. I would book as soon as possible (now). There are many return guests (Stamguest) that book every year. Make your calls now. Many places are only open during ski season and close for the rest of the year. There are many hotels with half board you might also consider. Some can accommodate a table for 11. Doesn't have to be the most expensive. Good luck.

Many taxi and bus available. Blue bus down and up every half hour in winter
