Wonderful Vienna Hotel

I just spent 6 nights at the Motel One near the Opera House. As a solo woman traveller, I found it to be very safe, clean and modern. The staff were so helpful & friendly. The morning breakfasts were plentiful and the rooms were perfect (ask for a quiet room overlooking the fountain court). The location was superb - just steps away from both the Karlsplatz Ubahn stop and the Ringstrasse trams. It was a 5 minute walk to the Secession (on the list of must sees for Klimt fans!). And a 7 minute walk to the wonderful Nachsmarkt.

Nice to hear. What was the price range?
Did you have a particular guide for using the transit system, or was it just easy to figure out on the fly?

The room rate was something like 95€ including breakfast. Which is the best deal I could find in the area for my dates.
It took me a day to figure out the trains/trams! I took the RS guidebook advice and bought a weekly pass at the airport counter (be sure to also buy a €1.90 ticket for the portion in between). Validate it once you go thru the gates. I never once saw an attendant or anybody checking tickets! But don’t take that chance, the pass was cheap. And I asked friendly passers by for help on that first day - got a little turned around at one point! The fold out map in the RS guidebook was very helpful with sites/tram stops. That and Google maps!

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this hotel! We have reservations for 3 nights in August before heading to Salzburg to meet up with our RS My Way Alpine tour. Good to know that it's convenient to metro & tram stops and we also had planned to walk to the Nachsmarkt. Will you be writing a trip report or have any other Vienna tips you can offer? Thanks!

I have stayed at that Motel One location twice. I liked it a lot. It's very comfortable, has a/c, and has a great location. Thanks for sharing your experience there.
