Wirtshaus zum Zirkelwirt?

Hello,

Has anyone tried the Wirtshaus zum Zirkelwirt in Salzburg? It looks lovely in the Old Town. My family of 4 (11, 14 year old girls, husband and I) are looking for a restaurant that is moderately priced and in Old Town within walking distance of the Radisson Blu, which is important as my 14 year old recently dislocated her knee and is in a hinge brace- feeling better and is walking around sans crutches thank goodness, but still limited with lengthy walks all at once. .The menu looks great! We are between this and Gasthaus Zum Wilden Mann but this restaurant has more kids options for my very picky 14 year old (the 11 year old will eat adult meals). However, the 14 year old will eat bread and dessert if all else fails anywhere, so it should not be a complete deciding factor!

I went there several years ago and thought it was good. But it's not my favourite place in Salzburg. If "Zum Wilden Mann" is within her walking range then I'll throw a curved ball, because the same distance is the bus stop by the river at Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz (by the landing stage). From there you can take lines 9, 21, 27 or 28 to Landeskrankenhaus (the regional hospital). This is normally walking distance but the 3 - 5 minutes on the bus solves her problem. Cross the road going forward to the big blue P parking signs and you find yourself at the road entrance to the Augustinerbrau Braustuebl. This is not a restaurant - it's an experience!

The building itself is worth a visit - if you go to the far end of the arcade there is an impressive staircase (probably too much for the casualty) which takes you to another entrance via a church associated with the brewery.

Getting back to the hotel is actually easier, because lines 9, 27 and 28 run down the one way street and stop at Rathaus a few doors from your hotel!

We've eaten at Zum Zirkelwirt a couple of times and really liked it. If you are looking for breweries, we've also eaten a few times at Steigl Keller, which has a wonderful view of Salzburg: https://www.restaurant-stieglkeller.at/en/

We also like Augustiner, but just to note that Augustiner is from Munich, while Steigl is the local beer from Salzburg. You can visit visit the brewery itself (in a different location) as well as its affiliated restaurant.

I had lunch there about a month ago. We walked down from Hohensalzburg Fortress and were actually planning to go to “Pauli Stubm,” but it wasn't open for lunch.
So we ended up at Zirkelwirt. Friendly service, good Austrian cuisine at reasonable prices. I don't think you can go wrong there. But it's nothing special either.

If you're staying overnight in Salzburg, you'll receive the “Guest Mobility Ticket.” With it, you can ride all buses in Salzburg (and most public transportation in the state of Salzburg).

One more note. “Augustiner Bräu” in Salzburg and the Augustiner Brewery in Munich are two independent companies. Both are private breweries. What they have in common is that they were both founded by monks of the Augustinian Order several hundred years ago.
