We stayed at the Hotel Weisse Taube (the white dove) in Salzburg. Excellent price - $128/night for us. It's located just around the corner from the cathedral & Mozartplatz. Great breakfast, room size similar to Paris hotels. Friendly staff. Even though I had booked through Expedia, they sent me an e-mail a few weeks before the trip with helpful advice. We took a taxi (at their recommendation) from the train station, which was 10 Euro. Everything was within walking distance.

Our family with 2 teenagers stayed here in June for 3 nights. We took the bus from the train station, it lets you off just by the river, and then a short 5 min walk to the hotel. Our room was very clean and the breakfast delicious. We loved the hotel because it was very charming and so conveniently located to everything we had planned to do. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others traveling with budget in mind but wanting comfort and cleanliness.
