Ramsau am Dachstein Pension Haus Maria

While looking for a place to stay in the Dachstein area, we came across the reviews on T/A of the Pension Haus Maria and decided to stay there. We figured so many people/reviews couldn't be wrong. They weren't! Our stay with Alistair and Denise far exceeded what we thought it would be. After maybe 15 minutes, we couldn't believe we had just met them, as we immediately felt we had been friends with them for years. Ali is very personable and knows just about everything from scenic roads, places, festivals and activities in the area. If he's not sure, he will check to see what's going on during your stay. Denise immediately makes you feel like family. Nothing's a problem. Upon our arrival, coffee and cookies were set out for us. We had a nice room with views that were just stunning. No need for a TV here (even though each room has one). Just sit out on the balcony or the front patio for the best show. There's also a "lounge room" for guests to read, relax or watch TV (they have a library of books and videos in English). Breakfast buffet was typical of an Austrian B&B, which was very good. Our visit was in early Dec., and with the strong sun, which seems to always be shining on the front of the house, we were able to sit outside with just sweaters on, no jackets, with about a foot of snow on the ground. We will certainly be back for a much longer stay.

If using public transportation, Alistair will pick you up and then drop you off at the train station in nearby Schladming. They also offer a "Ramsau Card" that allows you to use the buses in the area for 1 Euro per trip. They also have a laundry service, which is very handy. Denise did 2 loads of laundry for us for 12 Euro. Dropped it off in the evening and the next day everything was neatly folded for us.
