The "Hungarian Crown" looked like just the place for us. 30 minutes by direct train from both Vienna and Bratislava, the town of Bruck seemed like our kind of stopover - off the tourist-industry radar, yet accessible by train and handy for a day trip into Slovakia (where we had never ventured.) The hotel promised old-world atmosphere with traditional regional food as well as an easy 5-minute walk to the rail station, all at a very reasonable price.
Well, it was one of our more memorable stays on this 2+ week trip. We booked an upstairs room with river view and balcony in the main building - a very nice room with a comfortable bed and ample furnishings. Breakfast was buffet-style from 6-10 in the atrium pictured below and included the usual breads/cheeses/cold cuts/jams as well as cereals, eggs, fruit, yogurt, tea, coffee.

The dinner restaurant was a blast from the past - a menu and a vibe that you just don't come across very often anymore. Great eats there on both evenings.
Our stay wasn't without some disappointment, however; the town of Bruck itself wasn't all we'd hoped. Storefronts were abandoned here and there, and we had the sense that the town was in a general state of decline. But more disappointing was the weather... we experienced a deluge nearly all day long on the day we had set aside for wandering around Bratislava and decided not to make that outing, opting instead for a couple of hours at Vienna's impressive Hauptbahnhof where we could stay dry and do some shopping... with the rest of our day spent at the hotel, mostly in our room. Which, actually, eased our disappointment a bit, as this was one hellacious thunder/lightning storm, and our room with a view provided some unexpectedly dramatic live entertainment.
The hotel's website is below; we booked at booking.com as I recall, and will likely book here again if we ever have a chance to carry out our day trip to Bratislava.
