Had a great time in Vienna on my very first RSE tour. However, I've had problems with my key card at Hotel Kaiserhof Wien. I had issues opening my room with this card. Every time I returned to my room after a day of exploring Vienna I could not open the door. It got to a point where I would ask the front desk to re-program my card before going up to my room. This is a potential risk because that card is also used to secure the safe in my room. If I can't open my door than how can I open my safe? I did not feel that using the safe to secure my passport and my US currency was a good idea so I ended up hiding them in a place that I would remember but where housekeeping would not find them. I have informed RSE about this issue with this hotel.
I’ve had that same key card problem in various US hotels. After the same experience earlier this summer a desk clerk asked if I was keeping my key card next to a cell phone - yes they were in the same pocket all day. I separated the two items and didn’t have a problem the rest of my trip.
That must have been the problem. I kept my cards with my cell phone case. Thank you.
