Haus Ballwein: Moonstrasse/Salzburg, Austria

My husband and I spent three nights in Haus Ballwein. It was a thoroughly pleasant experience. The guest house and our room/bathroom were immaculately clean and very cheerful. The breakfast was hearty and offered a wide range of breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, fruits, and beverages. Frau Ballwein dressed in traditional garb when she served breakfast-which was nice- and was always very sweet and cheerful. She was also extremely helpful to us when deciding on transportation and eating out and offered us helpful maps and brochures as well as personal recs.

We also enjoyed the Moonstrasse area, which is sort of a farming suburb of Salzburg. We traveled by car so it was wonderful to be able to stay in this pleasant community outside of the city but still be a brief bus or car ride away from the Old Town, as well as an hour’s ride from Berchtesgaden or Hallstatt (the other places we visited while in the area).

I highly recommend Haus Ballwein and would gladly stay again. [Thanks to Rick for this wonderful rec in his Germany travel book!]

When we go to Salzburg we always stay out on Moosstrasse, although we tend to stay fairly far out towards the edge of town.

Just for anybody searching, there's no moon in the address. It is Moosstrasse.
